背景:
Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) appears critical to both development and function of the nervous system. Acetylcholine (ACh) is an essential neurotransmitter in the central and peripheral nervous systems. Impairment of cholinergic neurotransmission is well-established in Alzheimer’s disease, though the relevance early on as well as in mild cognitive impairment is contested. Other intentional or environmental impairment methods were found using organophosphates and carbamates with anticholinergic properties. The use of AChE inhibitors as therapeutic agents and pesticides has spurred detailed investigations of cholinesterases since their identification.
